Building The Promise

THE STORY THAT LEADS TO JESUS

Join us as we journey through the Old Testament to uncover the rich story of redemption that leads to Jesus. Through key themes like the Torah, the feasts, the prophets, and the temple, we’ll explore the foundation of our faith and how Jesus fulfills God’s promises. By understanding the story Jesus knew he was a part of, we can deepen our connection to him and live out our faith more fully.

The Blueprint of Redemption:
A Crash Course in the Torah

February 2 - April 20, 2025

If we truly want to follow Christ, we need to know the story he was living in—a story that began long before Bethlehem and still shapes us today. That story starts with the Torah, the first five books of the Bible, where the foundation of God’s promise is laid. Here, we encounter creation, covenant, and redemption—the origins of the world, the call of Abraham, the Exodus, and the giving of the Law. This is where the language of redemption first takes shape, as God sets apart a people through whom He will bless the nations. By understanding this framework, we will see the Gospels not as a disconnected beginning, but as the powerful culmination of a story always leading to restoration.

Jesus and the Feasts:
The Jewish Holidays and Feasts

April 27 - June 8, 2025

After laying the foundation, we turn to the rhythm of remembrance and expectation that God established for His people. The feasts of Israel weren’t just commemorations of the past—they were living symbols of God’s ongoing work and His future promises. Each feast called the people to remember what God had done, recognize what He was doing, and anticipate what He would do. These celebrations shaped Israel’s identity, reinforcing their trust in God’s provision and their hope in His unfolding plan of redemption.

Worship in Every Key:
The Psalms from Lament to Joy

June 15 - August 3, 2025

The sermon series, Worship in Every Key, will explore how these ancient songs of Israel speak directly to every human experience and emotion. The Psalms were the lifeblood of Israel’s worship. They gave voice to grief, doubt, fear, joy, hope and gratitude all within the framework of a deep and enduring relationship with God. These poems weren’t simply literary works or religious tradition; they were the actual language of faith, shaping how people worshiped and lived in every season of life. From laments that ask hard questions to songs of thanksgiving that overflow with praise, the Psalms remind us that nothing is off-limits in our communication with God. In sorrow and in celebration, in silence and in singing, God meets us where we are and invites us to bring our whole selves into His presence.

The Structure of the Sacred:
Religion's Space, Role, and Life

August 10 - September 7, 2025

Religion in ancient Israel was more than personal belief—it was the framework of life, shaping how people related to God, one another, and the world around them. The temple, priesthood, and judges weren’t just institutions; they were the scaffolding of faith, reinforcing the covenant and structuring sacred space, sacred roles, and sacred rhythms. But these systems also revealed a deeper truth: the limitations of human mediators and the longing for a greater priest, a truer judge, and a lasting temple. Understanding the religious world of Israel helps us see why Jesus’ words and actions were so radical, why he was challenged by the authorities, and why he ultimately redefined what it means to dwell with God.

Stories of Faith

September 14 - 28, 2025

Not all of God's work happens on grand stages—sometimes, His promise unfolds in the everyday lives of ordinary people. In this series, we will explore the "one-off" books of the Old Testament—stories like Ruth, Esther, and others that reveal how faithfulness, courage, and trust in God shape history. These stories remind us that God’s promise isn’t just for kings and prophets—it’s for farmers, widows, exiles, and outcasts. By looking at how God moved in their lives, we see how He is still at work in ours.

Kings and Kingdoms

October 5 - 26, 2025

Israel’s kings were meant to lead with wisdom and justice, but time and again, they fell short of the promise. From Saul’s failures to David’s rise, from Solomon’s glory to the kingdom’s downfall, the story of Israel’s monarchy is one of power misused, faithfulness tested, and a longing for a ruler who would not fail. Yet, woven into this history is a greater promise—that one day, a true King would come, bringing a kingdom that would never fall. This series will explore how the rise and fall of Israel’s kings shaped the people’s expectations and prepared the way for the fulfillment of God’s ultimate reign.

Redeeming Voices:
The eed and Role of Prophets

November 2 - 30, 2025

The prophets were more than messengers—they were God’s voice breaking into history, calling His people back to faithfulness. They stood at the crossroads of rebellion and redemption, warning of consequences while holding out hope for restoration. Ezekiel, in particular, carried a vision of exile and return, death and resurrection, showing that even in judgment, God was still working toward renewal. Though their words were often hard to hear, the prophets reveal the depth of God’s commitment to His promise—a promise that would one day be fulfilled in ways they themselves could only glimpse.

Isaiah's Vision:
A Promise Complete

December 7 - 28, 2025

As the year draws to a close, we turn to Isaiah—the prophet who saw farther than most. His words shaped Israel’s hope for a coming King, a Servant who would bring justice, redemption, and peace. But the fulfillment of that promise came in a way no one expected. As we prepare for Christmas, we will reflect on how Isaiah’s vision was not just about a distant future, but about a promise that God was bringing to completion—one that would change everything.
